Client & Business Challenges
The client, a U.S.-based digital signage provider, needed an intuitive platform for customer-facing outlets—ranging from Taco Bell franchises to hospital lobbies. Their existing solution struggled with inconsistent offline capabilities, fragmented scheduling tools, and cumbersome updates. Scaling to thousands of screens across different devices (Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, Windows) required a more robust codebase and streamlined content management workflows. Additionally, they aimed to push urgent, event-driven announcements without manual intervention. By modernizing both the player apps and the playlist management system, the client sought a future-proof, user-friendly solution to expand their global footprint and enhance ROI.

The Solution
Successive Digital collaborated with the client to develop a cross-platform digital signage ecosystem supporting instant broadcasts, remote scheduling, and offline playback. Initially built with Xamarin.Forms for shared code between Android and UWP, the player app later migrated to React Native for improved performance and agility. Simultaneously, a modernized web interface simplified playlist management, letting users schedule content seamlessly across thousands of displays. Automated caching allowed uninterrupted ad rotation during outages, while dynamic condition-based broadcasting ensured urgent messages could override existing playlists in real time. This end-to-end platform included robust user authentication, advanced monitoring, and deep analytics, catering to numerous industries with minimal overhead.
- Player Modernization
We re-engineered the existing Xamarin.Forms player into a React Native app for superior performance and flexibility. This shift optimized resource usage, streamlined code updates, and delivered a unified user interface across Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, and Windows—enabling consistent experiences and efficient content playback in diverse environments.
- Playlist Web App
A revamped, user-friendly portal allowed businesses to schedule ads, manage playlists, and push updates instantly. With integrated analytics, stakeholders could track ad engagement, run promotions, and pinpoint areas for improvement. By housing all functionalities under one dashboard, the system reduced manual tasks and lowered the learning curve.
- Offline & Emergency Broadcasts
To ensure minimal downtime, we introduced offline caching that queued content automatically when networks faltered. Meanwhile, high-priority alerts overrode scheduled ads in emergencies, offering critical communications without manual intervention. This dual-layer approach combined reliability and urgency, guaranteeing no missed messages during bandwidth constraints or unexpected events.
Results Accomplished
The cloud-based signage platform rapidly scaled, empowering advertisers with robust scheduling, offline resilience, and real-time broadcast capabilities.
